The People's Circus is a 5-year family learning initiative that will teach circus skills with the ultimate goal of creating a performing circus company. It will inspire, motivate, build relationships and develop creativity.
The People's Circus will include weekly circus skills sessions, masterclasses, a summer residency, performance visits, further training opportunities and the chance to perform as part of events and festivals across the region. The project's innovative and holistic approach will break-down barriers to participation, encourage people of all ages to learn together and provide a supportive environment for familes to develop new skills alongside one another.
We believe this cutting-edge initiative not only has the potential to bring a fresh and innovative approach to family learning, but could also be a pioneering project that is nationally recognised for excellence in circus practice.
The project wil be centred around three theatre 'hubs':
The De La Warr Pavilion, Bexhill-on-Sea, East Sussex
The Brook Theatre, Chatham, Medway
The Hawth, Crawley, West Sussex
Each hub will offer an outreach programme to three feeder organisations as well as hostings activities and events at the hub itself.
Funding in the region of £400,000 is currently being sought to realise this project.
